This notice explains what happens to your information when you use Loft Insulation Calc at loftinsulationcalc.com (‘the site’, ‘we’, ‘us’). It's written for people in the UK and reflects the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
The short version
- The site is a set of static pages. There are no accounts, no sign-up and no forms that send data to us.
- We don't use cookies, local storage or similar tracking technologies.
- Calculations run entirely in your browser.
- Our host, Cloudflare, processes standard technical data such as your IP address to deliver the site and keep it secure.
- We don't sell or share your personal information.
Who is responsible
Loft Insulation Calc is run by Asif Shahzad, House 10, Street 50, Jinnah Garden, Islamabad 44023, Pakistan, who is the controller for the limited personal data described in this notice. You can contact us about anything in it at info@loftinsulationcalc.com.
Your calculator inputs
Everything you type into a calculator, such as areas, depths, a cavity width or a price, is processed by your own browser. It isn't sent to us.
So that you can bookmark or share a result, the calculator stores your inputs in the page address (the part of the URL after the ‘?’). That means:
- your inputs may appear in your browser history, like any web address you visit;
- if you share the link, anyone who opens it sees the same inputs; and
- when someone opens a link that contains inputs, the full address is sent to our host as part of the normal request for the page.
The inputs don't include your name or contact details unless you type them in yourself, so please don't.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. As with any website, when your browser requests a page, Cloudflare receives technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the address requested and the time. Cloudflare processes this to deliver the pages and to protect the site against abuse and attacks. We don't use it to identify you.
Cloudflare is based in the United States, so this data may be processed outside the UK. Transfers of personal data from the UK to Cloudflare in the US rely on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, together with the safeguards in Cloudflare's own data processing terms.
Our web fonts are served from our own site, so loading a page doesn't contact a font service.
Analytics
We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages are useful. It's cookieless, doesn't track you across other sites and gives us aggregated figures such as page views, referring sites and countries. If it's switched on, your browser loads a small script from Cloudflare when you view a page. We don't use any other analytics, advertising or social media trackers.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you and delete it when it's no longer needed for that conversation.
Our lawful basis
Under UK GDPR, our lawful basis for the limited processing above is our legitimate interests: running a secure, working website (server logs), understanding in aggregate how the site is used (cookieless analytics) and answering messages you send us (email). We've considered these interests against your rights and believe the impact on you is minimal, because we don't build profiles or identify visitors.
How long we keep data
Server logs are handled by Cloudflare under its own retention policies. We don't use them to build profiles or combine them with other data. Analytics figures are aggregated and don't identify you. Emails are deleted once the conversation is finished, unless we need to keep them for a legal reason.
Advertising and affiliate links
The site carries no advertising and no affiliate links today. If we add either, we'll update this notice before they go live, explaining what changes and what choices you have. See our affiliate disclosure.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- be informed about how your data is used (this notice);
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased;
- restrict how we use it;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests; and
- receive your data in a portable format, where that applies.
Because we don't keep accounts or profiles, we usually hold no data that can be linked to you. To make a request, email info@loftinsulationcalc.com. We'll respond within one month.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
Children
The site is a general-audience tool and isn't aimed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Links to other sites
Our pages link to sources such as GOV.UK, the Energy Saving Trust, manufacturers and retailers. Their own privacy notices apply when you visit them.
Changes to this notice
If we change how the site handles information, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
